ANKR Learning's accounting-led teams needed to work from home. Their work involves sensitive client financial data. In the office, control came from the room: same machines, same network, people in sight. Moving remote quietly removed that. Without a replacement, protection would rest on trust, on every person on every home device never downloading or sharing a file they should not. That does not hold as a team scales, and nobody can watch for exceptions continuously. Left as it was, the move to remote work exposed the firm to client data leaving its control, the outcome its leadership feared most. Slowing the work down to compensate was not an option either.
